Mountain Lakes Tree Walk

24 Jun 2012, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Mountain Lakes Nature Preserve, 57 Mountain Ave., Princeton

Join local naturalist and nature blogger, Steve Hiltner, for a Sunday morning tree identification and invasive species walk at Mountain Lakes Nature Preserve, sponsored by the Princeton Borough Shade Tree Commission.  Here are the details:

  • Meet at the left-side parking lot before reaching Mountain Lakes House.
  • The two-hour walk is free.  Wear appropriate shoes and you may want bug spray.  If rain showers are only light, the walk will continue.
  • In addition to the “usual suspects” (oaks, ash, maples, elm) Steve expects walkers will encounter redbud, hazelnut, black walnut, Kentucky Coffee Tree, shagbark hickory, cherry, hemlock, musclewood, and butternut.  Invasive shrubs include honeysuckle, multflora rose, privet, linden viburnum , Asian photinia, and barberry.

Steve Hiltner has degrees in botany and water quality and served as naturalist for Friends of Princeton Open Space for five years.  See his nature blog at:  Princeton Nature Notes
