Earlier this week, Princeton Council approved changes to an ordinance that restricts the time of day and seasons when gas-powered lawn equipment, including leaf blowers, can be used. Refer to this chart for details about these changes and how they will impact you and/or your landscaper.
These ordinance changes represent an important first step away from fossil fuel-powered equipment. Over the past year, we’ve led the grant-funded project, Changing the Landscape, which seeks to improve both the health of the environment and the workers through the adoption of sustainable landscaping practices. such as this one.
To build upon this policy change and the effort put forth by our many partners, we have established the Landscaping Equipment Transition Fund, a fund to incentivize the transition to battery-powered lawn care equipment. We are still finalizing the details, but aim to provide meaningful reimbursements for the purchase of battery-powered equipment to as many small landscaping businesses that meet specific criteria.
Our goal is to raise $35,000 for this fund and begin distributing reimbursements to landscapers by January 5, 2022. Thank you to all who have donated to this fund. This fund is now closed so that we can begin distribution; however, please contact us if you are interested in contributing.
We are excited by the step made by the Council, and for the positive impact it will have on the environment and landscaping workers.
