Eve Coulson, President
In Princeton, Eve serves on the Princeton Zoning board and is active at the Princeton Jewish Center. She sees neighborhood building as an underestimated yet very powerful way to increase sustainable practices in daily life. She always takes the stairs—and she has discovered that sometimes the smallest things convey a big message. She carries a spork with her everywhere, which has not only saved the lives of countless plastic spoons and forks but sparked many conversations (“what IS that thing?”), about how one’s habits can have cumulative positive impacts.
Gail Ullman, Vice President
Gail’s career began with scholarly publishing, followed by decades of public involvement through Master Gardening, Princeton Environmental Commission, and the Princeton Planning Board. Her involvement with Sustainable Princeton expresses her commitment to good planning in the interests of our community and its environmental health.
David Hill, JD, Treasurer
An attorney with more than 25 years of experience working on energy and environmental matters, David is currently a Fellow and Adjunct Senior Research Scholar at Columbia University’s Center on Global Energy Policy and also advises private sector clients. Previously David served as general counsel of the U.S. Department of Energy from 2005 – 2009 and Executive Vice President & General Counsel of NRG Energy, Inc. from 2012-2018. In addition to serving on the board of Sustainable Princeton, David is board president of the Princeton Public Library Foundation and board treasurer of Arm in Arm, a nonprofit organization working to address food insecurity and prevent homelessness in Mercer County, NJ.
Elizabeth (Betsy) Marshall , Ph.D., Secretary
Originally from Virginia, Betsy grew up in a family that appreciated the natural wonders of the area while trying to address environmental problems. Betsy has a doctorate in environmental and occupational epidemiology and served on the faculty at the Rutgers School of Public Health for 20 years. While at Rutgers, she collaborated on research and interventions to improve occupational health for immigrant workers along with teaching and other environmental health research. Betsy and her family have lived in Princeton since 2000. Betsy has served on the Princeton Township Bike and Pedestrian Committee and has volunteered with the Girl Scouts and Homefront. She and her family try their best to live sustainably, especially in their yard, where the lawn keeps shrinking, and the native plants keep expanding.
Steve Averbuch, M.D.
A medical oncologist and pharmaceutical R&D executive leading cancer drug development for 40 years. Steve retired from Bristol-Myers Squibb in 2018 and he and his wife Rachel are Princeton residents since 2017. They both have a mindset regarding the environment and sustainability in everything they do. They practice whole foods plant-based eating, keep food and yard waste on their property, own and drive an EV, use renewable energy for their home, purchase carbon offsets for travel, and they consider the impact of each purchase and consumer action on the environment. Steve is active with several national and local environmental organizations focusing on solutions for the harmful impact of climate change and fossil fuels on human health and cancer outcomes.
Bruce Chung
Bruce currently works as Senior Vice President, Strategy and M&A for NRG Energy and has been a resident of Princeton since 2011. Bruce has enjoyed watching the partnership between Sustainable Princeton and NRG Energy grow over the years, and is proud to be a part of two organizations with a commitment to fostering Princeton’s ongoing sustainability mission. Prior to joining the Sustainable Princeton Board, Bruce served one three-year term on the Board of the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen.
Michael Chung
As Senior Manager of Sustainable Packaging at Johnson & Johnson, Michael’s professional career is dedicated to transitioning the consumer product industry towards a circular plastics economy where no plastic packaging becomes waste. A dedicated volunteer at Sustainable Princeton, Michael served on the Princeton Climate Action Plan, Materials Management committee and the Marketing Task Force before joining the Board of Trustees. Michael has lived in Princeton with his wife Val and two sons since approximately 2016. He has served as a coach at the YMCA youth basketball league and is an active leader in his neighborhood.
Liz Cutler
Liz Cutler is currently a whole-school sustainability consultant working with independent schools. She began at Princeton Day School (a PK12 school of 1000 students) in 1985 as an Upper School English teacher and founded their sustainability initiative in 2006. She was the school’s Sustainability Director until she retired in 2022. She founded OASIS in 2008 and is still the Director. This non-profit consortium works to help all NJ schools become more sustainable. In 2023 she was the Master Teacher at The Island School working with their young faculty to improve their teaching practice. She is the recipient of many sustainability-related awards, locally and nationally. She is on the boards of Sustainable Princeton and the Green Schools Alliance. She is also a flower artist
Greg Evans
Greg has more than 35 years of professional experience spanning four industries including Healthcare Sustainability, Banking/Financial Management, Environmental Management and Technology Consulting, Importing and Distribution/Retail, and Commercial Property Development. Greg currently serves as the Corporate Director of Sustainability for Penn Medicine. Jersey-shore born, he and his wife Sue have been Princeton residents since 1992.
Stuart Lieberman, Esq.
Stuart is a founding member of Lieberman Blecher & Sinkevich, a law firm with over 30 years of environmental and land use experience. With a primary focus on environmental litigation in state and federal court, as well as the Office of Administrative Law, Stuart’s expertise is largely focused on pre- trial litigation, trial discovery, and courtroom advocacy. Previously Stuart served as a former state Deputy Attorney General, who represented the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. Stuart has provided counsel to the Passaic River Coalition, an organization committed to protecting valuable water resources in the State of New Jersey, and is active at the Jewish Center of Princeton. A long-time Princeton resident with his wife Beverly, Stuart is a committed grandfather whose devotion to the environment comes from his desire to leave a healthy planet to his grandchildren.
Kara Succoso Mangone
Kara is head of the Sustainable Finance Group at Goldman Sachs, which advances an integrated approach to sustainability through central coordination of the firm’s policies, the deepening of sustainable finance expertise and by working in partnership with our businesses to drive client impact and deliver on our sustainability commitments, including our $750 billion sustainable finance target. Previously, Kara was global head of Climate Strategy, responsible for working with stakeholders throughout Goldman Sachs to deliver on the firm’s climate initiatives. Prior to that, she served as chief operating officer of the Sustainable Finance Group and as a managing director in Investor Relations, working closely with the firm’s global investor base. She resides in Princeton with her husband Jason and three children. She attributes her love for nature and the outdoors to generations of passionate gardeners including her mother and grandmother.
Fran Price, MF
After spending time in small communities in the northern mountains of the Dominican Republic planting trees and installing solar panels as a Peace Corps volunteer, Fran decided to make forest conservation her career. She has worked for The Nature Conservancy on forest issues for almost 18 years to incentivize better practices within the global forest industry. Fran lives with her husband Will (who also works in conservation) and two boys in a very “green” house in Princeton.
Bruno Sarda
Bruno relocated to the area in 2016 and immediately fell in love with Princeton’s natural beauty. He has been working professionally in sustainability since 2010, including as chief sustainability officer in Fortune 500 companies, as president of a leading environmental non-profit based, and now as a partner at Ernst & Young where he helps lead the sustainability consulting practice. Bruno and his wife Jodi drive electric vehicles, buy 100% renewable energy for their home, follow a mainly plant-based diet, buy local and second-hand as much as they can, have electrified all their lawn and yard care equipment, and avoid unnecessary consumption and packaging.
Abraham (Abe) Silverman
Abe has been working on energy and environmental issues for over 20 years, working at the federal and state level. Abe currently runs the Non-Technical Barriers to the Clean Energy Transition initiative at Columbia University’s Center on Global Energy Policy. Previously, Abe worked in several positions at the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, the lead energy regulator for the State of New Jersey, and in a variety of positions at NRG Energy, Inc., a large power plant operator and developer. Abe lives in Princeton with his wife Jenny and daughter Ada, a 1st grader at Community Park Elementary School.Board Liaisons
Sarah Boll, University Liaison
Sarah Boll became Princeton’s Executive Director of Sustainability on April 8, 2024. She will oversee Princeton’s progress towards achieving its Sustainability Action Plan including reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2046. Boll joins Princeton from Marriott International, where she served as the Senior Director of Energy & Sustainability. In that role, Sarah helped set the company’s science-based emissions reduction targets across all scopes and developed Marriott’s comprehensive climate action program.
Sarah’s leadership experience extends to her service as a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy, where she served as Liaison Officer for Military Pre-positioning Squadron and Second in Command of the USS FIFE’s Gas Turbine Engineering Plant.
Sarah holds a Bachelors of Science from Tulane University and a Masters of Science in Environmental Protection and Management from the University of Edinburgh.
Brian McDonald, Public School Liaison
An artist and designer, Brian previously worked in public finance for two investment banks and served as Vice President for Development at Princeton University. At the University, he was a member of the President’s Cabinet. Brian is an active community leader and volunteer. He currently serves as a member of the Princeton Public Schools Board of Education and previously served on the Board of McCarter Theatre Center for 17 years, with five years as president and 14 years as a member of its Finance Committee. Brian served on the Town of Princeton’s Citizen Finance Advisory Committee and the Boards of The Watershed Institute.
