About the Climate Action Plan
Sustainable Princeton led the charge in coordinating and completing Princeton’s Climate Action Plan (CAP). Completed and adopted by Princeton Council at the July 22, 2019 Council meeting, the CAP articulates strategies to reduce carbon emissions and to help the community become more climate-resilient. The plan provides an ambitious, community-based path to reduce emissions 50% (from 2010 levels) by 2030, 65% by 2040, and 80% by 2050. While achieving these goals, the plan strives to promote social equity, foster economic stability, improve the local environmental quality, and enhance public health and safety.
Thank you to the 4,600+ community members who engaged with the plan throughout the process. The CAP received formal letters of support from the Princeton’s Bicycle Advisory Committee, Board of Health, Environmental Commission, Public Transit Advisory Committee, Shade Tree Commission and the Sustainable Princeton Board of Trustees. Thanks also goes to the CAPERS team which supported the CAP with its research efforts.
The most essential aspects of Princeton CAP are summarized in four simple pages, The Princeton CAP Executive Summary (see above). To read the final version of the Princeton Climate Action Plan (CAP), you can download the full report here.
