Sustainable Princeton Expands Sustainable Home Expo for 2025

Nearly 40 vetted contractors, landscapers, solar installers, and more

[Princeton, NJ]: Sustainable Princeton is hosting its second Sustainable Home Expo on March 8th from 11 am to 3 pm at the Princeton High School gymnasium. After the overwhelming response from the first Expo in 2024, the event was moved to accommodate a larger audience, more vendors, and more classrooms. Attendees can expect to meet at least 35 high-quality, vetted home improvement contractors, solar installers, landscapers, and organizations with sustainability as a core component of their practice.

In addition to vendors, members from the Environmental Commission and the Shade Tree Commission will be available that day to answer questions. Attendees can also attend free expert-led educational seminars and demos throughout the day.

Seminar topics include: Planting for Pollinators, Electrify Everything, Energy Efficiency, Keeping Stormwater at Bay, Solar Panel, and Sustainable ADUs.

“Buildings, including our homes, are the largest portion of greenhouse gas emissions in our community. Part of our mission is to encourage residents to decarbonize their homes by making them more energy efficient, considering rooftop or community solar, and managing their yards more sustainably. It can be overwhelming to get started,” said Christine Symington, Executive Director of Sustainable Princeton. “The Expo educates people about their options, connects them to local professionals, and helps them take advantage of the state and federal incentives.”

While this expo focuses on homeowners and renters in Princeton, commercial property owners are encouraged to stop by Sustainable Princeton tables to learn about programs specifically for them.

“Our 2022 greenhouse gas inventory revealed that 42.3% of emissions come specifically from commercial buildings in town. There are energy efficiency programs and incentives just for commercial buildings that we want to connect local business owners and property managers to. I want our local business community to know they can meet us at the expo or contact our office anytime. We can help point them in the right direction.” said Alex Dill, a program manager at Sustainable Princeton.

“There are also many ways for renters to make their homes more sustainable! Renters can take advantage of free home energy assessments and get FREE energy-efficient light bulbs and smart power strips. They can also subscribe to a community solar project and receive a discount on electric bills. Renters can also create a pollinator-friendly space no matter the size. This Expo is for everyone!”

Families with children should feel welcomed to attend. A supervised kid’s room will allow parents to chat with the vendors and attend educational seminars while kids do fun, sustainable games and crafts.

An additional new feature of the 2025 Sustainable Home Expo is Helpsy, a NJ-based textile recycler will be on site collecting clothing and shoes for recycling. Participants are invited to bring bags of clean, dry, clothing, shoes, and linens to for recycling.
