What? Trashion – original designs made from items that would otherwise have been discarded or recycled. Turn ordinary trash into extraordinary fashion!
When? Sunday, April 27 at the Earth Day Celebration at Morven Museum and Garden.
Who? You! Participation is open to community members aged 8 and up. To enter the Trashion Show, complete this online registration form. The deadline to enter is Friday, April 4.
How? Entries must use a minimum of 75% recycled content — metals, paper, rubber, glass, plastic, cloth. A recycled item is one that has been manufactured and would be otherwise thrown away. Non-recyclable materials such as glue, paint, tape, etc. are permitted. For the purposes of this contest, natural materials such as rocks, dirt, bones, and sticks are not considered recycled.
Choose whether you want to walk in the Trashion Show and/or display your design for voting. The show will take place at 12pm at the Earth Day Celebration on Sunday, April 27. Trashion designs will be judged and prizes will be awarded for each age category, as well as a a “People’s Choice” award.
Suggested materials for your trashion designs include (but are not limited to):
- Paper/plastic bags
- Newspapers/magazines
- Food packages/wrappers/labels
- Tin/aluminum foil
- Soda tabs
- Incomplete decks of cards
- Metal/plastic bottle caps
- Plastic cups
- Broken umbrellas
- Lightweight cardboard
- Plastic utensils
- Corks
- Wrinkled tissue paper
- Empty tape rolls/spools of thread
- Old lampshades
- Foam peanuts/packing material
- Stained or torn fabric

Let your creativity rule! But keep in mind, transparent or revealing designs are prohibited.
Looking for sewing guidance? Drop by a Mend Pop-Up on Mondays from 7pm-9pm in Princeton University’s Frist Campus Center Room 118. Judging
Entries will be judged on creativity, originality, and artistic merit.
Age Categories:
Kids: 8-12
Teens: 13-18
Adults: 19+
Submissions will be anonymously judged by local artists, students from Princeton’s Green Creatives group, and representatives of Sustainable Princeton and Morven Museum and Garden to determine grand prize winners in each age category. Attendees can vote for the “People’s Choice” awards in person at the event. Prizes will be awarded at the Earth Day Celebration on Sunday, April 27, at Morven Museum and Garden.
