SPeople emPOWERing Princeton

On April 27th, the Sustainable Princeton Lending Library is emPOWERing the Party Like It’s Your Earth Day event at Morven Museum! You will first see the items when you pull up to park your bike on our bike racks. Princeton Record Exchange will be spinning records on a solar-powered setup, using our Goal Zero battery and solar panel to fuel both the record player and speaker.
Throughout the celebration, you’ll also see our two EZ-up pop-up tents at the waste stations and hear music and announcements from our PA speaker and microphones. All of these items can be reserved by you for FREE year-round in Sustainable Princeton’s Lending Library!

But Wait, There Is More!

The Lending Library currently features around 100 items, ranging from items you can find in the kitchen, like induction cooktops, to items you use outdoors, like electric landscaping equipment and handy repair tools. You can explore the full inventory on the Lending Library website. The collection is community-driven, growing based on interest and need, so it’s always evolving.
Lisa, Project Manager at Sustainable Princeton and the Lead Librarian of the Lending Library, shared, “We will have more information about the Lending Library at our Earth Day event and staff to help answer your questions. You can also sign up anytime on our website. We have a document that outlines how to register and reserve items.”

The Start of the Lending Library

By encouraging sharing over buying, the Lending Library supports Sustainable Princeton’s larger goals: reducing the need for unnecessary purchases, encouraging community building and resiliency, and making sustainable equipment accessible to more people.
Lisa celebrates this initiative: “We were inspired by other tool libraries as well as the Princeton Public Library’s Library of Things to offer free sustainable home items to residents and local non-profits.”
The Lending Library is free to use and open to Princeton residents, local non-profit organizations, and their employees. Items can be borrowed for up to two weeks, with an option to renew for another week. Whether you’re working on a home project, trying out induction cooking, or curious about electric lawn equipment, we make it easy to explore sustainable living—without the cost.

Take Action

Celebrate Earth Day with us on Sunday, April 27th, from 11 AM to 3 PM at Morven Museum to see these sustainable tools in action and learn more about what the Lending Library has to offer. Staff will be available to answer questions, and you can sign up on the spot or anytime via our website.
